Walking in Faith

By Pastor David Miller

Scripture Reading

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation."
— Hebrews 11:1-2 (ESV)

We often talk about faith as if it's a magic wand—something we wave to get what we want. But true biblical faith is far more robust and grounding. The author of Hebrews describes it as "assurance" and "conviction." These are strong, foundational words.

Imagine walking into a dark room and flipping a light switch. You don't hope the light comes on; you have an assurance based on past experience and understanding of how electricity works. Faith in God operates similarly but on a spiritual plane. It is the deep, settled confidence that God is who He says He is, and will do what He says He will do.

Today, you might be facing a situation where the outcome is unclear. The path ahead might be foggy. This is exactly where faith finds its footing. It is not a leap into the dark, but a step into the light of God's promises.

Reflection

What area of your life feels uncertain right now? How can you apply the "assurance" of God's character to that specific fear?

Prayer

"Heavenly Father, thank You for being the solid rock on which I can stand. When my feelings waver, remind me that Your truth does not change. Strengthen my faith today, that I might walk confidently in Your will. In Jesus' name, Amen."
